| Victorian Woman Fashion |
I must have read Pride and Prejudice four times by now. Every time I reread it, I always pick up on something new, hinting at Darcy's liking of Elizabeth. I also love Jane Austin's use of wit and observations of the irony of that society. A close second is Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte - that book was so unusual and fantastic.
I also love the design of the period - excessive patterns and gilded objects, all made to show fashion and wealth. I think my favourite pattern from the period would be Damask. It's so orderly and interesting, yet when it ages, it takes on an enchantingly worn look.

Not written in the Victorian era, but takes place in Victorian London: The Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare is excellent!

DeleteI love Jane Austen also. I think my favorite Victorian novel has to be David Copperfield by Charles Dickens, which captured me with this, "Whether I shall turn out to be the hero of my own life, or whether that station will be held by anybody else, these pages must show."

DeleteI've never read any of Charles Dickens works, but it's defintely on my list! Did you happen to see BBC's series on David Copperfield? thought it was wonderful!
It's been so long since I last read Pride and Prejudice... I'm going to try to get my hands on it again.

Isn't it a great read? I think it has one of the best opening lines of any book -

Miss Austen was a lady of wit and irony. :)
