Ruffian Nails

I haven't done my nails in a while, but when I saw Elycia's Ruffian nails, I had to try out the technique for myself!
Once again, I don't seem to have the steadiest hand for painting nails, but when the nails are viewed from a distance, the effect is really neat! (and the errors not so obvious lol)
Want to try it out for yourself? It's pretty simple!
1. Paint your nails all one colour and let dry
2. About one third of the way down, dot a little blob of your second colour, and draw the blob downward
3. Carefully fill out the arch, drawing the polish downward.

I found a really helpful tutorial for this here.

While I think this nail design is really neat, it's a bit too 'plain' for my liking. I'm going to hop away now, and jazz them up with some glitter and try out my new nail art pen thingy. Hopefully they don't turn out uber tacky, but if they do, I'll post pics anyway! :P

Done!

Here they are! And I think they're spectacular! Much more me. :)
I started by applying a thin, shimmy, irridescent polish (a dollar store cheapy), over top to kind of unite the two greens, GEMS by Milani, and my brilliant Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen in black. I sealed the black doodles in with a top coat of Clear'd for Takeoff by Sally Hansen, though I should say I'm not a fan of this clear coat, as it's thin and runny, and I prefer something a bit more thick and substantial, where I feel my nails are getting real protection from chips and breaks.

The first two pictures above, are of my right hand. I always have a hard time doing the nails on that side, since I am right-handed. I decided to go with a flowy, organic line, where jittery lines were the intended style.

For my left hand, I went with a geometrical look, with lines of different thicknesses crossing and intersecting. I also added dots to give it a more interesting design.

So all in all, I'm glad I tried the ruffian, but it's just a bit too tame for my taste! I love trying out wacky things with my nails and make up. The body is just another canvas to me. :)

Hope you're having a great Thursday!
