Favourite Books Meme

All about books!

Here's a little meme I filled out via Polish Adore

via Dara's Attic
What are you reading right now?
Nothing! I used to read a lot, but... reading small text has started to become straining on my eyes, so I don't find reading as pleasurable anymore. I think I need to get some reading glasses, lol. I do have two knew books in my bookshelf I've been meaning to read though! First, The Hunger Games & The Host.

Do you have any idea what you’ll read when you’re done with that?
I'd love to read Wuthering Heights.

What 5 books have you always wanted to read but haven’t got round to?
The Hunger Games
A Series of Unfortunate Events
Heir to Seven Waters (the long awaited next book in one of my favourite series)
Wuthering Heights
Peter and Wendy & Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens

via Recycled Reads Austen

What magazines do you have in your bathroom/lounge right now?
Faerie Magazine + Applied Arts Magazines

What’s the worst book you've ever read?

The Druid's Tune, Twilight Breaking Dawn (though there are aspects to the series I do like)

What book seems really popular but you actually hated?

I have never finished reading the Lord of the Rings... Honestly I only got a few pages in and I was completely bored to tears at the style of writing. I did however love the Hobbit. Same thing with Eragon... That one stinked!

What’s the one book you always recommend to just about everyone?

To girls, Pride and Prejudice. That book is everything AMAZING. Witty writing, romantic plot, amazing heroine, and a great look at the culture and manners of the past.

Where do you usually get your books?
Thrift stores, Chapters, or Superstore.

Where do you usually read your books?

In bed, all cozy, with a cup of tea. Now I'll need to add glasses to the occasion, apparently :P

When you were little, did you have any particular reading habits?
I read a lot. I did horribly in language arts class in school (not sure why, I think my reading comprehension is awful, but my creative writing and essays were excellent) and my teachers would ask my mom if there was any way to get me to start reading books - my mom would always say, well, she's ALWAYS reading books, and I don't imagine she would be reading all the time if she couldn't actually read, LOL. I was a strange child.

What’s the last thing you stayed up half the night reading because it was so good you couldn’t put it down?
It's been a long time since I've had the pleasure of being hooked into an amazing book. Some books that did have me hooked at one time - Harry Potter, Twilight, The Seven Waters Trilogy, The Da Vinci Code, and Ender's Game.

Have you ever “faked” reading a book?

In my later years in high school. I never, EVER, liked any of the books on the class reading list. Maybe that's because my reading comprehension sucks so bad hahahaa.

Have you ever bought a book just because you liked the cover?
YES! I have a theory about that - I believe that they make covers to appeal to specific demographics, which definitely works on me!

What was your favourite book when you were a child?
The Box Car Children. I seriously loved that series. I was also really into the Baby Sitters Little Sisters books.
What book changed your life?
Honestly, I don't know if any book has had that kind of an impact on me. The closest thing to come to it though, was Harry Potter. Me and my friends even made a club, hehe!
What is your favorite passage from a book?
I have SO many from Pride and Prejudice. Here's just a few:

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife. - first line

Are the shades of Pemberley to be thus polluted? - Lady Catherine

“It is happy for you that you possess the talent of flattering with delicacy. May I ask whether these pleasing attentions proceed from the impulse of the moment, or are they the result of previous study?”  - Lizzy

What are your top five favourite authors?
Jane Austin
Juliet Marillier
Dan Brown
Philip Pullman
Orson Scott Card

What book has no one heard about but should read?
The Seven Waters Trilogy! Such a beautifully written and enchanting series.
What 3 books are you an “evangelist” for?

The Seven Waters Trilogy
Pride and Prejudice
Ender's Game

What is your favorite classic book?
Pride and Prejudice of course!

5 other notable mentions?
His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman

  1. I used to read so much, more like devour a book, I was one of those that would find a series of books and read everything I could get my hands on and I could lay in bed for hours reading. I would get lost in a book and read all night long. It has been quite a few years since I have found an author that interests me and now I have so much to keep me busy but I'm still hoping to find a book that will enthrall me :)
